The Great Indian Comedy Show (TGICS) was a stand-up comedy show on Indian television. Every episode of the show is hosted by a different actor including Ranvir Shorey (actor and VJ), Vinay Pathak (actor and comedian), Sunil Pal (Comedian) to name a few. Every episode starts with a small gag which sets the mood for the episode following a humorous medley. Further, the host of perform humorous monologue. As a routine, the host of the episode a one –liner comic anecdote is presents as news focusing latest happenings, sports, politics and socialites. The show is combinations of stand-up comedy and hilarious sketches with finest comic talent. The show includes parody, sketches of popular movie bits and anecdote of socialites and politicians.
The show was premiered on Star One in October year 2004. The show was broadcasted from Monday to Thursday. The show successfully completed more the 300 episodes and ended in the year 2006. In 2007, the show was renamed and started as new show with the title Hanso India Hanso claiming that the show was getting confused with other popular comedy shows – The Great Indian Comedy Show and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Overall, TGICS gave Indian audience an innovative comedy show. The major cast of the show were:
1. Ranvir Shorey
Ranvir Shorey, actor and former VJ was born on 18 August 1972. He studied in Dayanand Model Sr. Sec School in Jalandhar. He married Konkana Sen Sharma in 3 September 2010 and have a child named Harron. He made his debut in films from Ek Chotisi Love Story in 2002 and later acted in a number of big movies like Jism in 2003, Lakshya in 2004, Bheja Fry, Traffic Signal, Aaja Nachle and Mithya. Along with Vinay Pathak he hosted talk show titled Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun? and The Great Indian Comedy Show on Star One. She appeared in comedy movie Khosla Ka Ghosla. He also played the role of Nanoo in Pyaar Ke Side Effects. He acted in multi starrer movie Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. in 2007. He is currently hosting the season 7 of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa on Sony TV.
2. Vinay Pathak
Vinay Pathak is an actor and a theatre person. He was born on 12 July 1968 and brought up in Bhojpur in Bihar. He studied in Bikas Vidyalaya in Ranchi. He graduated from Allahabad University. Later, he attended State University of New York. On television he appeared in Hip Hip Hurray on Zee TV. He along with Ravir Shorey hosted Channel V Show OYE. Along with Ranvir Shorey he hosted talk show Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun? on Star TV. They both together did another show House Arrest on Channel V. He also featured in gag-based show Great Indian Laughter Show on Star One.
In bollywood he was noticed by his performance in comedy movie Bheja Fry. His other movies include Khosla ka Ghosla and Jonny Gaddaar. He acted as a supporting actor in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. He produced a film titled Dasvidaniya.
3. Sunil Pal
Sunil Pal is a popular Indian Comedian, actor. He was born in Maharashtra. He studied in Janata Vidyalaya School. During college he mimic his professors and movie actors. He came to Mumbai in 1995. He struggled for years and in 2000 he got a chance to tour with Amir Khan for Lagaan as junior artist. He also toured with actress like Priety Zinta and Aishwarya Rai. Later he contested in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge show on Star One and won the title in 2005. Following the comedy title he appeared in many Hindi movies. His movie list include Bombay to Goa in 2007, Hum Tum, Phir Hera Pheri in 2006, Apna Sapna Money Money. He performed in a cameo in Kick with Salman Khan. He scripted and directed a comedy film Bhavnao Ko Samjho featuring 51 stand-up comedians in 2010.
4. Gaurav Gera
Gaurav Gera is an actor, standup comedian and anchor in Indian cinema and television. He was born in 23 September 1978. is an Indian stand-up comedian and He is popularly known for his character as Nandu in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. He started his career on TV with Life Nahin Hai Ladoo on Star Plus. And later in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin on Sony TV. His other shows include Koi Apna Sa, Baat Hamari Pakki Hai. On Sab TV he appeared in Tota Weds Maina and on Colors TV he appeared in Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal. He acted as Dulari in Comedy Nights with Kapil on Colors TV. In Bollywood he played cameo roles in Kyun.Ho Gaya Na, Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar and Woodstock Villa.
5. Suresh Menon
Suresh Menon is a standup comedian. He was born on 10 January. He appeared in many films and TV series. He appeared in a TV show on Comedy Circus. He judged a game show Hello Kaun? Pehchaan Kaun on Star One. He participated in dance reality show Jhalakh Dikhla Jaa. His movies include Krazzy 4, Fool N Final, Partner, Phir Hera Pheri, Grand Masti, Dil To Pagal Hai and Hello.
