Plot
Kenalum Kinarum is about a poor old woman. She has limited means for her survival. Every day, she has to walk down the hill to fetch water from the well owned by the panchayat. The condition of her hut is terrible. It is in great need of maintenance. But she has no money to afford the maintenance expenses. One day, a well-wisher advises her to take a loan from the government. She decides to do this. She applies for a government loan to repair and restore her shack. However, the corrupt officers reject her application and deny her permission to grant the loan. They ask her for bribes. She has no money to pay such bribes. Upon learning this, her employer, a retired army colonel, decides to teach a memorable lesson to these corrupt officers. Will the retired colonel succeed in doing this? Will the old woman be able to raise the loan? What mischievous things will these corrupt offices do to the retired colonel?
Star Performance
Shanthakumari gave an excellent performance. She executed the old woman's character very well, with all the required emotions. Jaffer Idukki, Saju Kodiyan, and Tini Tom did everything. However, there are some newcomers in the film who fail at acting. They gave an average performance.
Analysis
Flim Kenalum Kinarum depicts corruption in the government system. The movie is said to be a Malayalam Version of director Shyam Benegal‘s Well Done Abba, in which Boman Irani played the lead role. The film seems to be dragged out very much. It could be a 15-minute short film, but the makers have extended it to 110 minutes. The second half seems a bit more engaging. It has a combination of romance and some politics. It also includes an item song. The old guys sneering at women add a comedic theme to the film.
The makers of this film seem to be big supporters of the current government, as the story seems to criticize the Congress party and praise the current government.

However, it gives a good lesson about how to deal with the corrupt government system. People who are into politics should watch this film. It is a one-time watch film.
