A composition of politics, money and personal lives.

Plot: Dhanayathra is a story of a middle-class woman, Vijila, who is left estranged from her father. Her father died leaving behind huge debts and two siblings for Vijila. She turns towards hard work and leads a selfless life as a nursery teacher and as an insurance company agent. She tries all she can to make both ends meet. Later, she is aided by local business giant Devarajan, who helps her financially and promotes her to higher ranks of his company. It is not later that Vijila gets to know his true colors and his plans. And hence the story commences where Vijila fights everyone to get her money and ultimately stands against the system.

Analysis: Dhanayathra is one well-written yet pathetically executed movie. Wherein an ordinary storyline does not help the cause; the movie is further spoiled by poor screenplay and dialogue delivery. The overall display of power and money sidelines the whole plot and the script as well. The film gets even more irritating when the comic timings go completely wrong and unnoticed. However, the film has some action sequences, yet they are not well executed and leave a baffled viewer.

Star Performances: The movie stars Shwetha Menon as Vijila, who is the only character which makes the film viewable. The character of Vijila, even after a poor script, is played decently by her. Riaz Khan as Devarajan was unable to do justice to the role, despite his show of muscle and power. By far, he looks ordinary and gets trapped in the poorly structured script. The other performances of supporting actors are good but not enough to make the movie worthwhile.

What’s there?

1. The ordinary storyline with a few changes, yet interesting.

2. The movie has a few good songs and are entertaining.

3. Few comic punches here and there make the movie cross the line.

What’s not there?

1. Majorly lacks good performances except for Shwetha as Vijila.

2. The movie is more of an elongated version of a shorter script.

3. No new action sequences or climax as the movie is much unclear from the beginning until the end.

Verdict The movie Dhanayathra is one poorly made movie with bad performances. It indeed is irritating and not enlightening at all. Especially, the subject of politics and revenge are not covered the way they were expected to be.
