Plot
Set in Maheshwar, A Dalit boy forms an unlikely friendship with an American tourist who is mourning the loss of his grandchild. As their friendships grow, the boy shares how he was thrown out of his village for touching a sacred idol. Shocked by this, the american takes the kid to his village Chikamagaluru where the American challenges the villagers to break the toxic notion of caste discrimination.
Star performance
Everybody has been cast for their respective roles perfectly. Vedic kaushal is the standout performer here stealing every scene he features in. His innocence and dialogue delivery deserve applause.
Analysis
The film has been beautifully shot. The cinematography is top-notch, the forts, temples shots have captured the beauty and culture and divinity of places. The film shed light on some serious topics such as caste discrimination, untouchability, gender inequality, and social injustice. The director Avinash Vijaykumar has succeeded in keeping the screenplay tight and coherent. The film is also very dialogue heavy and the director has stuck to it, without adding action sequences. The music is also very authentic, one in kannada, others in Hindi and english. My hero is a film that tackles serious issues through the eyes of an outsider and a youngster who have their set of problems.
