Plot
A girl, known as Pearl to some and Aksha to others, saves a girl from the clutches of a neo cult that insists on human sacrifices. Why is Pearl after this girl? What is her real motive? Can she stop the menace of the cult in time?
Star Performances
Agni Sreedhar and Samyuktha Hegde are the only two saving graces of this film. If not for the amateurish direction, Agni Sreedhar’s script could have gone places.
Samyuktha Hegde also needs to be appreciated for daring to step out of her comfort zone.
Analysis
‘Kreem’ as a concept holds promise. It is a film that reveals the horrors of human sacrifice, and how one person rises against all odds to curb the menace.
The movie starts on a good note, with an animative sequence describing the essence of the plot. The visuals are captivating, and the way the human sacrifices will certainly unnerve some viewers. However, that is it, since the film fails to progress beyond that point.
‘Kreem’ is not made for the regular commercial audience. However, one look at the basic plotline, and you will understand that is unfortunately not made for the niche audience also. Despite having promise, the screenplay fails to deliver when it is needed the most.
Despite the runtime being less than 2 hours long, the viewers don’t feel connected at all. Abhishek Basanth may be a new director, but some basics about filmmaking need to be followed, which is certainly not visible in this case. The film is not disastrous, but the way the film is directed could have led it on the same trajectory. If even seasoned actors like Achyuth Kumar feel out of place, you know the film is not taking the right path.
The only saving grace for this film is the vision of Agni Sreedhar and the efforts of Samyuktha Hegde. For all the flaws of this film, Agni Sreedhar did attempt something different. That his dreams weren’t implemented well, but he still tried in a different direction. So did Samyuktha Hegde, whose efforts showed in her acting. If only the screenplay was as brilliant.
What's There?
What's Not There?
Verdict
‘Kreem’ is an unconventional film on human sacrifices. The initiative was great, and some acting performances almost took this film on the path to absolute brilliance. However, the lack of a sound screenplay and proper execution halted these efforts midway. Watch it only if you are a fan of Samyuktha Hegde.
