. Satyansh (Omkar Kapoor), is an engineering graduate from Raipur who dreams of being an automobile engineer but lands in Mumbai in need of a job to support his family. Employed for one year in the city, he returns to paying for gunny sacks to transport unidentified corpses to the crematory for cash and identifies a social issue. Satyansh who has done B. Tech takes the job of lifting unclaimed dead bodies and calls it — a job. The story is entirely original, as it shines the light on the darker and unpopular topic in society- unidentified corpses. It’s an excellent combination of drama and thriller.
Star Performance
Every character has done a commendable job in the movie. Still, if I have to pick one name, I would say it’s Omkar Kapoor as the main lead, he is the one who made scenes consistent and heart-warming to which the audience can connect.
Analysis
Satyansh’s new job is portrayed as rather uncanny, so watching the latter makes one reconsider the norms of society. What pushes some children to the extent that they will ignore their parents as they engage actively in the chase of dreams and success? Why can’t you go and visit them or be with your parents during such times? The selfish attitudes of some people make him so angry that he becomes furious until fate places him in a similar position. Looking on the bright side, I would like to know what happens if the tables are turned. Is the lead character somehow self-correcting and passively leaving his parents behind for his career in another city?
Issue-wise, Lavaste (Laash ke Vaste, for the dead bodies) of Sudeesh Kanaujia is significant and hits the raw nerve. The topic is commonly discussed in almost every family in by its very nature the subject is highly debated. ‘Who will take care of you when you grow old? What if you die, alone?’ A common need of the present times could perhaps be a pre-arranged funeral. The idea behind the film and its general theme is pure and well-meant. Besides, it most importantly has an empathetic lead male character and that’s rare to come across in a world that perceives kindness as a weakness.
What threatens the genuine attempt though is the somewhat grim and monochromatic vision the film has of relationships and life. It attempts to be satire and a tragicomedy but one can only see it as a mere family drama. The narrative feels slightly regressive as it goes further than Baghban in implicating the children who deny being responsible for fixing their parents’ every woe (budhape ka sahara).
Even if the challenges involve humanity or accountability, it is perfectly okay to expect as long as the general mentality of the story aligns. Contractual and practical, isn’t it, that children are to be regarded as an investment for your old age? This is a significant flaw in the writing because you completely overlook this crucial conflict and counterargument. What you are left with is a touching, but didactic speech to parents who may not be capable of providing a shoulder to cry on if the children have issues or are not happy from within.
Omkar Kapoor feels out of place but does not let any hanky panky or brashness in his simple mannerisms reflect in his persona. Another significant role is witnessed with Manoj Joshi, who gives the much-needed vigour to the movie. Yes, Brijendra Kala is both funny and emotional at the same time. Lavaste can be observed for its purpose serves and the topic it focuses on, even with the flaws.

What’s Not There?
Verdict
The writers, actors, and directors, everyone has done a commendable job in the movie. It is a movie that must be watched together with your family as it addresses a severe issue of society and the characters and acting have made everything so real to watch, which is remarkable.
