Plot
An orphan student is given an assignment on the Godhra riots, which had affected him personally. He seeks out the ultimate truth, even as some people want to dismiss it as a ‘mere accident’.
Star Performances
Ranvir Shorey and Manoj Joshi have somehow tried to salvage this film.
Their acting performances during the court scenes somehow made this film watchable.
Analysis
‘Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra’ would be a very good class on how not to make a film on real issues. The movie is a courtroom drama, which is based on the 2002 Sabarmati Express tragedy, which later led to the infamous Gujarat riots.
However, the screenplay is anything but impressive. Unlike the rumors online, the movie is not one sided, but just boring and ineffective. If the aim was to throw light on the actual victims of the 2002 riots, ‘Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra’ did a really bad job at it.
This film suffers from the same problem as ‘Hamare Baarah’. Nothing is nuanced, engaging, or even thought provoking. The screenplay is well below average, making even a 2 hour 13 minute drama feel like a never ending story. The film is far from being a propaganda, it is just a glorified documentary, with no room for subtlety.
While ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ had its own flaws, at least the makers tried to engage the audience with the scenes. However, in this movie, each scene feels tiresome and bland. Nobody should be surprised if they find some of the audience snoring midway. Unlike ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Article 370’, which had crisp, no nonsense approach to the subject, ‘Accident or Conspiracy : Godhra’ feels scattered and disoriented.

‘Accident or Conspiracy : Godhra’ is a golden opportunity lost to mediocre screenplay and underwhelming narrative. The lone bright spot about this movie was the acting of Ranvir Shorey and Manoj Joshi to some extent. Watch this movie only if you have lots of time to spare.
