After a long hearing, the Bombay High Court has laid the controversy around ‘Hamare Baarah’ to release. The film is now clear for a theatrical release, with some modifications.
But what was the problem? ‘Hamare Baarah’ is a take on the problem of overpopulation, through the eyes of a Muslim family. Many fundamentalists declared it to be Islamophobic just on the basis of a promotional teaser, and demanded the film to be banned.
Following the controversy, Bombay High Court took notice of the matter, and despite a clearance from the Censor Board, stopped the release of the same. However, after the entire investigation, it turned out that there was no reason for any objection. According to the observations of the current bench, the movie focuses more on uplifting women, rather than attacking or demeaning any religion.
With that, ‘Hamare Baarah’ will now look forward for a suitable release date. Initially the film was scheduled to release on the same date as ‘Munjya’, i.e. 7 June. However, the unnecessary objections, followed by a concerted campaign to impose an arbitrary ban led to unforeseen delays.
