Khejdi grows up thinking that somebody who has the same body as her, is supposed to be hidden away like a prisoner, just like she has been. At some point in the movie, Khejdi asks her father if she will die in that same dark dusty corner of the house that she has been in forever. Khejdi explores her body and while she does not understand why she is like this and believes that she is the only one in this world going through this, she is certain of one thing, she wants to go out and find love and live her life. Khejdi the movie revolves around her as the central character and the trials of any parent who loves his children but is afraid that society will never accept them the way they are. His portrayal as an intersex woman sends goosebumps down the spine, with laughter, crying and screaming, Ashish has managed to act better than any A-list Bollywood actor. Ashish looks outstanding in his whole attire and the way he provided the necessary depth that his character needed. The emotions and struggles of any intersex person have been justifiably beautifully described by him. The characters showed one of the best raw actings I have seen in a while.
Analysis
Khejdi is a clever and beautiful movie. It showcases the struggles of being an intersex person and how the parents of an intersex person try and safeguard their child from a society that would never accept them. Although not all parents are understanding like khejdi’s father, who was doing his best throughout the movie to protect his daughter from the evils that are lurking outside, he believes that the only way he can ever see his daughter happy is by locking her up otherwise the minute the village people will find out she is intersex, they will either paint her as a goddess and parade around town or will banish her and torture her for being a witch. Khejdi is the type of movie that the youth of India needs, it is a shame that it never got the big screen hype that it deserves. The actors have done a spectacular job in their portrayal of their characters, and they deserve some decent awards for the same. The movie was presented at Asia's largest LGBTQ+ festival and received high praises from everyone.
