Fireflies in the Abyss a documentary film deals with the story of coal miners working in illegal mines in north-east India. The movie is about despicable lives. It reveals the working conditions in those mines and how young boys work with just a head torch and a pickaxe with them. It shows how mountains and human beings have been exploited.
Plot: The picture tells the story of an 11-year-old boy, Suraj, who wants better education and wants some friends in his life. He is a cheerful boy and always finds something worthy or the other in the things around him, but has been burdened with an alcoholic father and a sister who is not able to fulfill his dreams. It shows the lives of Nepali immigrants who work there and are now out off from their families. There is no safety and medical facilities in these mines but these people still work and are now familiar with these mines. They risk their lives every day just to earn some money for their living.

as a director. He tries to show the world which every few of us know or have seen. Fireflies in the Abyss tries to reveal the conditions of people and the difficulties they face in these coal mines. It also displays the violation of the rules i.e. child labor. The scenes laid makes the audience think and feel sympathy for these young miners.
Star Performances:Â The performance done by Nishant, an Assamese boy who plays the role of Suraj in the flick, is excellent. He convinces the viewers by his acting and shows the pathetic conditions of these miners who are working in these mines without any safety and under proper supervision. He displays the need for survival of the humans and the efforts they make to earn money for their living. The other actor helps in completing the plot and shows the darker sides of the lives of these people.
What’s there?
1. The script reveals the lives of these people and the harsh conditions under which they live.
2. Under the direction of Reddy, the plot is liked by the audience and the story is thought-provoking.
3. The terrific acting of the cast will leave you speechless.
4. It shows the effort of humans done by them for their survival. They are ready to risk their life just to earn some money.
5. The film reveals the Orthodox traditions and beliefs of the people in the Indian society.

3. The development of the characters is not proper.
Verdict: The movie will leave you speechless, and you will start thinking about Suraj, as in what happens next in his life. You will create a feeling of sympathy for these workers. The film is watchable.
