This is a story that is now almost as old as the earth; Bollywood-struggler comes to Mumbai, he can dance, and he's worked on his body, finds love and this new love convinces this dancer to enter a talent competition that could make him a superstar. Not to forget that he wants to be a star for his late mother and not for himself.

Plot

Sameer Behl (Shahid Kapoor) leaves Delhi and goes to Mumbai to become a star, but he soon realises that becoming an actor is not a cake walk. There he works as a courier delivery man to make his both ends meet while giving never-ending auditions.
Meanwhile, he’s living a life of a struggler, lives in a rented room, and friends replace family. A producer notices Sameer when he (Sameer) is dancing in a nightclub and get so impressed by the latter that he signs him as the male lead in a film. Also, Tina (Genelia D'Souza), a girl who thinks from her heart, is selected as the choreographer of the same film.
But this happiness doesn’t last long as Sameer soon loses the offer he had bagged, and eventually gets in trouble. He loses his home, sleeps in his car, works as a dance teacher in a school, and finds himself struggling to make ends meet. He finds himself standing at the same point from where he started. Sameer loses his film because the director who promised to launch Sameer, decides to go the "talent hunt" route. Tina is so moved by Sameer’s state that she quits the producer’s project, as well.
However, later Tina encourages Sameer to remain strong-willed and participate in the same talent hunt show as the winner of the show will get to play the same role that Sameer was supposed to play earlier. In the talent hunt audition, Sameer says about his mother’s dream.
During the audition, Sameer gets to know that his father’s shop has been demolished. Sameer, worried man, goes back to Delhi, promising Tina that he will come back soon. After watching Sameer’s performance on TV, his father asks Sameer to go back to Mumbai and participate in the show.
Eventually, Sameer wins and becomes what he was destined to be, a Superstar.

Analysis

Ken Ghosh’s movie has that story that we have seen umpteen number of times.; a story of a struggler who leaves his hometown for Mumbai with a bag full of dreams; the hero’s relentless period of struggle, how he overcome hurdles that he face in his journey of becoming a Superstar, are told in this movie. Do not go for Chance Pe Dance just for Ken and Shahid because it lacks the magic of ‘Ishq Vishk’.

Star Performances

Shahid Kapoor’s sincere performance makes Sameer a sort of nice guy. He has given an uninhibited and charming performance with excellent humor. His toned and tanned body is proof that he has really worked hard on his physique. Genelia looks cute, and her performance is a treat to watch.
What’s there?
1. Shahid’s dance is entertaining.
2. The music is peppy and funny.
3. Certain dialogues like school kids calling a sleep-deprived Sameer as “soya bean” are appealing.

What’s not there?

1. The story comprises predictable twist and turns.
2. The light-heartedness of the beginning is very well balanced with an emotionally loaded finale.
3. Genelia and Shahid make a cute pair; their pairing really works.

Verdict

Chance Pe Dance is a movie with oodles of heart and is meant strictly for Shahid Kapoor’s fans. It is also for those who like song and dance reality shows on television, with too many tears in it.
