is a prequel to 1982 The Thing. In this movie Dr. Sandor Halvorson who has found something extraordinary invites Paleontologist Kate Lloyd to join his team. The team has found an alien spacecraft deep in the Arctic ice; this spacecraft has been in there for around 100,000 years. Just a few steps ahead the team the remains of the occupant. They take this strange creature out of and keep it under observation. As the ice melts, this creature revives and starts attacking the members. Every member who is attacked turns to an alien.
The filmmakers did a lot of research and went under so many painstaking details so that they can keep up the hopes of the lovers of the original film. This is an amazing movie and one of the bests among other Hollywood prequels. It seems even better than the first one. The only thing in which this movie lacked behind is the visual effects. The CGI renderings lead to this flaw, it is not really good. It does not look original and somewhat sloppy. The 1982 stop motion effects were appreciable in contrast to this version. One cannot forget the vivid images of creatures in 1982 movie.
The movie is not terrible, it is good, but it could have been much better. It is tough to make prequels because of strict rules and guidelines. But this new thing overcomes that strictness and sets an example for other horror-sci-fi movie makers. The epilog is mixed with the Carpenter, which is awesome and chilling. The movie does not bring complaints, especially from true Carpenter fans.
Verdict: It is a good outcome of handwork and dedication.
