Directed by Peter Lepeniotis, the base of the film derives from the Lepeniotis 2005 short and animated movie, ‘Surly Squirrel’.

Plot-

Purple squirrel, Surly (Will Arnett), along with his mute rat friend whose name is Buddy (Robert Tinkler), resides in Liberty Garden. Red squirrel Andie (Katherine Heigl) and Gray squirrel Grayson (Brendan Fraser), two self-styled heroes of the park, compete with Surly and Buddy in helping the urban animals, who are running low on winter food (nuts). Surly accidentally destroys all the supply that he has banished to the big city.

In the city, Surly finds Maury’s Nuts shop; he plans to rob the shop from the basement. This shop is being run by the group of crooks who are planning to rob the bank, which is adjacent to the nut store.

Raccoon (Liam Neeson), the leader of the urban animal group, sends Andie to search for food. Later on, Surly finds out that Raccoon is stopping the supply of food to control the animals. Surly was trying his best to fight against all this. While fighting, Surly and Raccoon fall into the waterfall. Everyone starts mourning; they realized that Surly ended his life for the park’s animals. Precious ( Maya Rudolph Maya Khabira Rudolph is a talented American actres >> Read More... ) finds the unconscious body of Surly. Buddy comes to look at it, and suddenly Surly wakes up and hugs Buddy.

Analysis-

The movie is entirely for kids. This picture has comedy and a bit of adventure scenes. The second half of the film is interesting as many unreliable things are revealed. The story is convincing, but not out of the world.

Star performance-

As it’s an animated movie, voice over’s made by the celebrities are quite apt. They match the level best.

What’s there?

Colorful canvas and good graphics are used in the film.

What’s not there-

Less satire, according to the animated cartoon movie.

Verdict-

Good for a one-time watch and spend lazy Sunday afternoons.
