Capturing the real essence of real life stories is a challenge to the filmmaker. The Finest Hours Click to look into! >> Read More... is one such attempt by Chris Gillespie, the director of the movie. Let’s see what the movie has in store for us.

Plot

The Finest Hours is set in 1952 when a horrible storm showed its fury in the USA. An oil tanker is broken into two pieces due to this natural disaster. The movie narrates different stories in its given time frame.  One is the Coast Guard operation, delving on the heroics of four people, who sail in a wooden boat, to save the people got trapped in the oil tanker. And the next one is about the 32 people at the mercy of the tanker, trying their best to survive.  Finally, we have the romance plot, which seems to be forced into the story.

Analysis

The film is adapted from the 2009 book “The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard's Most Daring Sea Rescue.” As for the film, the survival instinct of the men, who are caught in the storm, is shown in the film in a seamless manner. Gillespie has executed the movie in an astute manner.

What’s there?

  • The way in which Gillespie and his team capture the anger of the turbulent sea is commendable. The ocean waves are shown impeccably by CGI effects.
  • The movie oozes earnestness throughout. You just can’t stop getting emotionally connected with some of the characters.
  • The screenplay is written in a convincing manner.
  • The visuals are outstanding, and they provide the much-required authenticity to the film.
  • 3D is utilized in its fullest sense in the movie.

What’s not there?

The love element in the movie, in no way, elevates the film.

Verdict

We don’t get to know the valor of those heroes who venture in the sea, in this case, to save the lives of 32 equally brave people, if not for the narration of it in the big screen. And the Finest Hours let you salute the real heroes.
