The final haunting is a horror cum thriller filled with mysteries, scripted by Suzanne Green, and Matthew White and directed by Flaminia Graziadei. The film has Pearl Chanda in the lead role. The rest of the cast includes Lucinda Rhodes Thakrar, Joelle Koissi, Josh Burdett, Marc Zammit, David J Biscoe, Karin Geigerich, Ellie Dickens, Bella Heesom, Taz Ayoub, Leigh Holland, Adam Lewis, and others. The film is collectively produced by Flaminia Graziadei, Suzanne Green, and Michele Wheeler. Marie-Anne Fischer is the music composer of the movie. Cinematography and editing are done by Joan Bordera and Francesco Loffredo respectively.

Plot

The story of the movie revolves around two parallel realities and a baby as the link between the past and the present. Lily Renold (played by Pearl Chanda) keeps a terrible secret, which is about to escape when she takes up the baby-sitting job for the Thompsons at their home, Grosvenor Grange. Tom and Samantha Thompson are both unhappy in their marriage. Lily’s past threatens to seep out as she enters the haunted house and becomes possessed by horrifying personalities. She struggles to protect the baby from the ever-increasing danger. But is it real or imaginary? That becomes the twist of the story.

Star performance

Pearl Chanda excellently played the character of Lily. She marvelously portrayed the horror, the anxiety, and the mysticism through her expressions. Other actors also did a great job. The casting director Carol L. Dudley did a great job casting the perfect stars apt for their roles. Lucinda, in the role of Leanne was outstanding as always.

Analysis

This movie can be a turning point in the director and the actors’ lives. The main reasons for this movie’s success will be Pearl’s acting, supporting actors’ roles, the editing work, and the incredible cinematography. The story slowly builds up from the beginning and gradually unfolds the twist towards the climax. Although the movie’s plotline is nothing new, it explores various psychological aspects through Lily’s character. The sound and light work is appropriate for creating the horror ambiance. The background color of the film is dark and greyish. It contributes to the horror theme. The scriptwriter did an excellent job of maintaining the thrill throughout the movie. Though the first half is a little slow from the second half, we cannot conclude the movie as boring. After the first 30 minutes, things pick up quickly. The climax is super thrilling. The film is compelling once it gets going. The visual effects done by Massimo Loiacono are on point. The makeup team’s work is praiseworthy, too. To conclude, this film is perfectly executed.

What’s there?

  • Pearl Chanda’s excellent performance
  • Lucinda and Joelle’s amazing acting
  • Excellent direction
  • BGM and cinematography are perfect

What’s not there?

  • Too long scenes that can be avoided

Verdict

Although the “is it real or is she psychologically deteriorating” storyline is not new, it is executed well here. This film is certainly worth a watch for the fans of the horror genre who do not require jump scares or easy answers. One needs to have patience while watching this film and cannot give up before it gets going.
