When three extremely overworked mothers are looking for a breather by planning to spend a night out, kids will be the dads’ responsibility, and only when they thought things couldn’t possibly go wrong when they are just out for a peaceful dinner and some fun, that is exactly when things go terribly wrong.
Plot: Allyson, (Sarah Drew) is the church-going, clean freak, stay-at-home mom of three kids whose husband, Sean ( Sean Astin He played the role “Sam” in the trilogy “Lord Of T >> Read More... ) is usually away on business tours. After an exceptionally tiring day of dealing with her kids’ messes that were their way of wishing her a Happy Mother’s Day, she decides that she deserves a short break from all this chaos. So she decides to spend a night out with her friends, two equally distressed mothers, Izzy (Logan White) and Sondra ( Patricia Heaton Patricia Heaton is an American film and television >> Read More... ). However, things start falling apart pretty soon as the kids get left with their terribly incompetent fathers who can barely manage the kids for a few minutes and the mothers get dragged into a hunt for her sister-in-law’s baby, whose boyfriend seemingly left the toddler at a tattoo parlor.
The acting of Sarah Drew (“Grey’s Anatomy” fame), seem to pretty apt and suitable for the kind of role she is playing although she could have done a lot more if the script could have written a bit better. However, her over-emotional and constantly anxious and panic-stricken character could have been toned down to a little more steady and mature character. The rest of the cast has reasonable performance throughout, although the main problem seems to have been the way the writers of the film have molded the characters.
There are many incidents like a police car van chase and a hunky biker-man helping them in their quest, and also the ladies end up landing in prison, although they have not been portrayed with as much humor and wit as they could have been. The movie tried to make you laugh and also send out an emotional message about the blessing of having a family but somehow fails to miss the mark.
Verdict: To this slightly comic story about an innocent night out going haywire with some philosophical and biblical implications about the rewards of being a wonderful mother, I give this movie 2 out of 5 victories.
