Bad Kids of Crestview Academy is the sequel to Bad Kids Go to Hell (2012), which is based on a graphic novel of the same name. The film is directed by Ben Browder. It is produced by James R. Hallam, Brad Keller, and Barry Wernick under the banner Bad Kids Productions. The film stars Sammi Hanratty, Sean Astin He played the role “Sam” in the trilogy “Lord Of T >> Read More... , Gina Gershon, Drake Bell Drake Bell is an actor in America, who was born on >> Read More... , Ben Browder, Sophia Taylor Ali Sophia Taylor Ali’s full name is Sophia Taylor Ram >> Read More... , Sufe Bradshaw, Ali Astin, and Cameron Deane Stewart. Charles Schner did the camerawork while Matt Diezel did the editing. The film’s music was composed by Jeff Cardony.

Plot

The film begins with a SWAT team descending upon the infamous Crestview Academy. They come across several dead bodies, a completely ruined Porsche and a man on fire running out of the school building. While trying to figure out what is happening, the team eventually comes across a blond girl in a school uniform carrying a makeshift flamethrower. Alarmed by the possible threat, one of the officers asks her to turn herself in, but she simply exclaims “Go to Hell” before literally opening fire on them. Now the question is what the hell is happening and how did we end up here? So, flashback to eight hours ago when the said girl who we later learn is Siouxsie Hess, an “undercrust” arrives at Crestview Academy for a Saturday detention session reserved only for its seniors. She sneaks into this detention in order to find out the truth behind her sister’s death. But what happens when history start repeating itself and all the “bad kids” start to die one by one in the most gruesome ways possible. Who is on the killing spree? Is it a ghost? A curse? A cover-up? Or revenge? The rest of the story deals with that.

Star Performance

Sammi Hanratty did a splendid job as Siouxsie Hess. She is well-supported by Sean Astin, Gina Gershon, Drake Bell, Ben Browder, Colby Arps, Mathew Frias, Sophia Taylor Ali, Erika Daly, and others.

Analysis

The star cast did justice to their roles. However, the supporting cast was not really interesting. Apart from Siouxsie, the characters never really shine. For a film like this to work, we need characters who we care about or at the very least the ones who are fun to watch meet their brutal ends. The director also did a poor job in setting the flow for the plot. The film tries to blend several genres seamlessly, but couldn’t get the ingredients quite right. The best way to describe this film is as “horror comedy” but it is neither funny nor scary. The background score was fantastic and the cinematography was excellent.

What’s There?

  • Performances by the star cast were terrific.
  • The background score was excellent.
  • The cinematography was fantastic.
  • The CGI blood and comic book-style antics were amazing.

What’s Not There?

  • The supporting cast was not really interesting.
  • Great actors like Gina Gershon, Sean Astin and Drake Bell were used poorly.
  • It feels like we are in a completely different film by the time it comes to an end.

Verdict

Bad Kids of Crestview Academy is a high school drama with several twists and turns throughout the film. It is a must watch for all the fans of the first film (Bad Kids Go to Hell) and Sean Astin. It can be a one-time watch just for Sean Astin as you must.
