Plot
Look Back – Beyond The Blades honours and shows the beauty and significance of Kalaripayattu which is an ancient martial art form. This is done through the story of a woman who is holding on to past traumas, which leads her to seek revenge against her former lover, who is the cause of it. She goes on a mission to learn and master Kalaripayattu to get stronger and more skilled. However, the challenges and lessons that she encounters during the journey, change her perspective and values. She comes across numerous physical and mental challenges that change her from the person she used to be. As a result, this gives rise to a growth in her that is physical, emotional and spiritual. She experiences a new kind of stability and peace of mind. Eventually, this makes her let go of the hatred she was holding on to, and forgives.
Star Performance
Meenakshi’s acting was brilliant and Ranjan Mullaratt was convincing in his role as a guru. Upasana also gave an outstanding performance.
Analysis
The message that women must also learn this martial art is the most impactful message in this film. It’s a powerful and encouraging message. This film does an excellent job of showing the importance of Kalaripayattu and the powerful ways it can change a person for the better. The music chosen by Hamsalekha improves the atmosphere of the film. The storyline is not impressive. Action choreography is excellent, as the moves are graceful and precise. Cinematography is also fantastic and visually appealing. Editing is well done; it enhances the action scenes and the mood during the emotional scenes.
