Paul Dano portrays Nick Flynn, who is an ambitious young guy who is trying to achieve success himself by becoming a great writer in order to become successful. He misses his late mother Jody(played by
Julianne Moore

) because of her loving nature towards her. But for him, his father Jonathan is not an even a memory as he has not seen him in last 18 years. Jonathan Flynn (played by Robert De Niro) has already cemented his as one of the greatest writers of all time and was considered “ a master storyteller.”Jonathan suddenly faces an eviction from his house, and he is forced to reach out to Nick, leading them to come face-to-face.
Analysis: The duo does make you sometimes laugh with some of it’s great comedy and also because of their great chemistry on screen. Julianne Moore does full justice to her character, but you would wish that you could get to see more of her because her character is not one of the most important ones. Her character seems to go to waste.
Star Performances: Without any doubt, with so much of screen time given to him Robert De Niro steals the show. He is back to his genius form in “Being Flynn”. Paul Dano again proves that he is an actor who can be distant and mystifying in this film.
What’s there?
• Stellar performances by all the actors but namely Paul Dano and Robert De Niro who standout in the cast.
• Has a different and a unique approach in exploring the bonds between parents(played by Robert De Niro) and child(played by Paul Dano).
• Paul Weitz has done outstanding job with the direction of this film and Robert De Niro has also done an equally amazing job with his captivating narration.
What’s Not there?
• At a runtime of just 102 minutes, the film looks to be a bit scrambled up.
• The story of all the characters were not developed very nicely.
• Some of the scenes at the beginning are don’t really mix up in the movie.
Verdict: At quite a low budget Paul Weitzcan deliver quite a decent picture. Watch the film and you will start valuing the bond between your parents and yourself even more.
