Deepika plays the titular role and Shahid plays Raja Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer plays Alauddin Khilji. The film has created a huge controversy. Some say that the film has some intimate scenes between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati, which is a distortion of history. But, the film team denies the rumors. Now, Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced that even though the film is censored, he will not allow the film to release in Madhya Pradesh. In contrary, Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal CM, stated that Padmavati should not be opposed and opposing the film is just killing the freedom. She also stated that the entire film industry should raise their voice for the film. Rajasthan CM announced that the film would be screened after clean censoring.
