He was a cancer victim and the treatments did not help him much. Hemant was undergoing a treatment in Scotland, he was also popular in Bollywood for his music. When Asha Bhosle heard the news about the death of her son, she cancelled her programs and rushed to see her son. Asha was interested in initiating the 86^th birthday function of her sister Lata Mangeshkar.
