Karan Johar Addresses The Problem With Hindi Movies

Karan Johar has understood the problem with Bollywood.

In a recent podcast, the filmmaker revealed that the industry is suffering from a serious crisis, especially in terms for mass action films.

According to Karan Johar, most of the current directors in the industry have not adapted well to the genre of mass action movies. They have been well versed on films that are more uber cool in approach, rather than staying connected to the roots like their regional counterparts. This is  why even if they try, none of the directors have been to match the success levels of their counterparts  in Kollywood or Tollywood.

A simple search reveals that Karan isn’t wrong either. With the exceptions of films like Gadar 2, Jawan etc., not even a single film that has attempted to emulate the mass action template from southern regions of Indian cinema has managed to attract the audiences. Even films like Animal, Jawan etc. have been successful because the directors hail from regions like Telangana, Tamil Nadu etc.

Karan Johar had last produced the movie Dhadak 2, which starred Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles. Despite favorable reviews from the critics, the film turned out to be a box office dud.
