Without Parvez Malik, Karachi’s film industry would have vanished much sooner. He is credited with producing some of Pakistan’s most successful films. Born in 1937 in Karachi, British India, and influenced by classmate Murad, whose father managed a cinema distribution business, named Film Arts. Murad’s father and his colleagues taught them the art of filmmaking and marketing over time. Malik entered the Pakistani film business in 1964, armed with a master’s degree in film studies from the University of Southern California.
He began production on his masterpiece, “Heera aur Pather,” determined to give the waning film industry a fresh direction. For Armaan and Qurbani (1981), he received the renowned Nigar Award for best director. In 1992, the president of Pakistan presented him with the Pride Performance Award. Malik had a lengthy career that was more than 3 decades. His Urdu language films have gained appreciation from both critics and general audiences. His family includes his wife, 2 boys, and a daughter. He passed away on November 18th, 2008 from a heart attack.
