Adnan Malik is a multi-talented man of Pakistani origin. He is an actor, producer, director, filmmaker, and video jockey. He was born on June 9, 1984, in Islamabad in Pakistan. He went to the International School of Islamabad in Pakistan. He studied filmmaking at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. His mother is also an actress in the Pakistani film industry – Praveen Malik and his father is a doctor. Adnan began his career as a documentary filmmaker, producing works such as Why We Fight, which was recognized as one of the best American documentaries at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, he created the short documentary Bijli, which won Best Short Film at the Kara Film Festival and Delhi Digital Film Festival and was a finalist at the United States Student Academy Awards. His next documentary, Bhuli Hui Hoon Dastaan (The Forgotten Song), was funded by Geo TV and was screened at film festivals worldwide.
This film, along with Mushtaq Gazdar's book on Pakistani cinema, constitutes some of the most extensive research on the subject. He returned to Pakistan in 2005. He has worked as a model for clothing brands and as a VJ at MTV. He spent four years as an associate video producer and behind-the-scenes producer at Coke Studio. He went on to direct and produce TV commercials for brands such as Cornetto, Pepsi, Djuice, Nescafe, Telenor, and LUX. In 2016, he directed the critically acclaimed short film Love is in the Air for Cornetto under the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Pakistan.
He made his professional acting debut in 2007 with Zibahkhana: Hell's Ground. Later he was seen in Slackistan in a supporting role in 2008. In 2014, he appeared in the television drama serial Sadqay Tumhare, written by Khalil-ur-Rehman and directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin. Malik played the role of Khalil, the love interest of Mahira Khan. He was nominated for three Hum Awards, winning two for Best Television Sensation Male and Best Onscreen Couple for this role. He was also nominated for Best Actor Popular. He was first nominated for Best TV Actor Award at the 15th Lux Style Awards. In 2016, he was cast as Sikandar, an aspiring photographer, in the romantic drama series Dil Banjaara. In an interview with Dawn News, he revealed that the role resonated with him as it was his father's purchase of a camera that first sparked his interest in the arts which is quite similar to the character’s story.
Adnan Malik also runs a media production company called Adnan Malik Production (AMP), where he works as a director and producer music videos, documentaries, television commercials, and photography. In addition to his film work, he previously owned a tee-shirt company in New York City called Urban Turban, which was noticed by the fashion designer Patricia Field due to its popularity. His filmography includes documentaries such as Social Circus, Telephone Payar, Bijli, and Bhuli Hui Hoon Dastaan. He has also directed music videos and short films, including, Phir Milli Tanhai, Phir Se Game Utha Dain, and many more.
