K Ramalakshmi was born on December 31, 1930, in Kotananduru, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. She was a writer and a staunch advocate for women's rights. She pursued her graduation in Bachelor of Arts from Madras University. During her college, she whets her literary knowledge by getting well-informed in English and Telugu literature. After gaining expertise in the academic field, she began working as a sub-editor for Telugu Swatantra. Ramalakshmi began writing novels in 1951. She wrote many novels such as Kasthuri, Pandaranguni Prathijna, Hema, Pelli, Manani Gaayam, and others. Ramalakashmi's 1954 movie 'Vidadese Rainballu' gained an excellent reputation.
She worked for several women's welfare organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in addition to being a writer. Ramalakshmi married fellow writer and lyricist Arudra in 1954. They had three daughters together. Ramalakshmi Arudra was the pen name she used for some of her literary work. She also published numerous critical articles in support of her husband. Feminism is a central theme throughout numerous stories she has written. She passed away on March 3, 2023, at the age of 92, in Hyderabad. Her death has left the Telugu literary world in utter despair. Ramalakshmi has an unparalleled and valuable contribution to Telugu literature that will never be forgotten.
