Punjabi Singer Kuldeep Manak

Kuldeep Manak was an Indian Punjabi singer. He was also known as Kuldip Manak. Kuldeep Manak was born on November 15, 1951, as Latif Mohammed Khan. His place of birth is Jalal village of Bhantindra district in Punjab, India. He went to ‘Jalal Government High School’ to complete his education. He was passionate about playing hockey and was a keen player in the school. He was fondly called ‘Manaka’ by his school friends and classmates. He completed his graduation from his village school. His father’s name was Nikka Khan, who was a singer. He had two brothers, namely Siddiqui Manak, a well-known devotional singer, and Rafiq Manak, a tantric. Kuldeep Manak married Sarabjeet Kaur, with whom he had two children. His son was named Yudhvir Manak, and a daughter named Shakti Manak.

Kuldeep Manak was a famous & versatile singer and earned the title Kalian da Badshah. He was fond of singing from an extremely young age. Kuldeep Manak left his birthplace and moved to Ludhiana to pursue his career in singing. He began singing with the well-known singers Harcharan Grewal and Seema. In Delhi, a music company official featured him in the song “jija akhian na maar ve main kall di kurhi” with Seema. In 1968, his illustrious career in music started when the 17-year-old Kuldeep Manak chosen to record the song with Seema. He has also sung folk songs. “Maa mirze di boldi” was his first folk song, followed by “ohne maut nu waajan maarian.” In 1973, his first album released by HMV, which included the songs Teri Khatar Heere (kali), Jaimal Phatta, Heer Di Kali, and Dulla Bhatti. These songs composed by Ram Saran Das, and lyricist by Hardev Diligir. His first Long Playing (L.P.) was released in 1976, including Tere Tilley Ton, Chheti kar Sarwan Bachcha, Garh Mughlane Dian Naaran, and more songs. Further albums included Heer di doli (1977), Mehroo Posti (1982), Jugni yaaran di (1983), Dil Nahin Lagda, and so more.

He has also sung and acted in several Punjabi films, such as Saidan Jogan (1979) with the song ‘Sathon naee majhin chaar hundian,’ and Lambardaarni (1980) with the music ‘yaaran da truck balliye.’ He was a singer, actor, and composer in Bhabi (1981). In 1983, he sang the song “ajj dhee ik raje di” in the Punjabi movie Sassi Punnu. He earned a reputation for singing the traditional Punjabi genre of music known as Kaliyan during the 1980s and 1990s.

He lived for sixty years. He died in Ludhiana, Punjab on November 30, 2011.
