. His spouse was Preetam Kaur. His elementary education was over in a nearby, village school, which he joined in 1945. For High School, he went to Lalton Kalan village. For graduation, he went to Ludhiana.
In his school days, Dev was encouraged by his Punjabi teacher named, Hari Singh Dilbar, who was himself a famous writer and novelist, to write some poetry. Dev Tharike Wala got inspired, and begin to write songs for kids, the name was Chal Chakk Bhaine Basta School Challiye.
In 1960, he joined as a teacher. In 1961, his first song was recorded. He was motivated by his friends to write songs. Inderjit Hasanpur was his inspiration. Dev liked his song Sadhoo Hunde Rabb Warge, Ghund Kaddh Ke Khair Na Paaiye. Prem Kumar Sharma was selected by HMV, and Dev Tharike Wala wrote songs for him.
He also wrote Heer’s lyrics through a painting of Heer painted by Sobha Singh. His creations are sung by Karnail Gill,
