Saroop Parinda was a Punjabi actor and comedian. He was born in 1938 in Bhatinda, Punjab, India and belonged to a Jatt Sikh family. Parinda spent his entire life there. Saroop was very passionate about the theatre from a very young age. He started acting in 1954 with the director Mahindra Singh Bawra of the Forward Theatre group. Mahindra Singh gave the name ‘Parinda’ to him. Saroop rose to fame after playing comedy acts of “Atro-Chatro” on Jalandhar Doordarshan in the late eighties.
Parinda was widely known for the role in which he carried the Chachi persona in a woman’s attire. Saroop Parinda alias Saroop Singh Saran was associated with 30 feature films and about 50 comedy telefilms and Punjabi television serials. He wrote Punjabi Serial ‘Ghar Jawai”, “Flato’ and ‘Nashihat’ for Doordarshan. He was famous for his notable work in movies such as Kulli Yaar Di (1970), Putt Jattan Di (1983), Patola (1988) and Subedar (1991). It was March 4 2016, when a wave of mourn ran across the hearts of fans. It was the day when Saroop Parinda left his fans. It is an irreparable loss. The one who has to go goes, and the memories and his works are left behind.
