Navroze Contractor is a renowned Indian Photographer, Cinematographer, and Writer. He spent his childhood in Ahmedabad and attended Shreyas Montessori high school (the first Montessori school in India). He did his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Photography at M.S. University, Baroda. He attended FTII (Film and Television Institute of India), Pune, where he studied cinematography and film direction. He studied photography in India (under the guidance of Bhupendra Karia) and in the U.S. He dived into the learning of the art of video production at Sony Corporation in Tokyo, Japan. His career as a cinematographer has been nothing short of excellence.

He has worked on several award-winning feature films like Duvidha, 22nd June 1897, Limited Manuski, Devi Ahilya Bai, Percy, Love in the Time of Malaria, and Frames. His contributions to the field of documentary-making are numerous and legendary. Having a keen interest in and talent for photography, he has had a remarkable journey in this field too. He has held five one-man shows of his still photographs, out of which three were in India and two were in San Francisco, USA. Photos of Jazz musicians taken by Contractor are present in the Smithsonian Museum collection in Washington DC, USA, adding another feather to his hat. His other photographic works are present at TATE, London. Besides this, he has also conducted numerous photography and film workshops at NID Ahmedabad, SEPT Ahmedabad, IIT Hyderabad, Pomona State University, California, USA, SRFTI Kolkata, Srishti School of Design Bangalore, and Pondicherry University, among others. He is also a writer and has written pieces for several car and bike magazines. He is the author of the book, Dreams of the Dragon’s Children, based on his shooting experience in China.
