Mallika Dutt Gharde was born on 29 March 1962 in Kolkata, India. She is a prominent writer and activist for Human Rights. She pursued Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs in Mount Holyoke College and did master’s in international affairs from Columbia University. She graduated with a Juris Doctor from New York University Law School. She had massive interest in the field of Art and Literature, and she chose them as her Career. She has led the Human Rights and Social Justice at the Ford Foundation’s New Delhi. She has been the Director of Norman Foundation and the Associate Director of The Centre of Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University.
She has used culture to change culture through her award-winning Campaigns. She is a founding member of Breakthrough, a human right organization dedicated to making Violence against Women unacceptable. She also runs Sakhi, a non-profit organization for South Asian Women’s rights. She has been twice named as one of Verve’s top 50 most influential Women. She was honored one of 21 Leaders for the 21st Century in 2016 and as one of the 50 Fearless Minds changing the World in 2013. Mallika was awarded the Trailblazer Award in 2008, the Karamveer Puraskar in 2009, the American Courage Award in 2009, the International Humanitarian Award in 2013, the Indian Abroad Gopal Raju Award in 2014, the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2016.
