Kashinath Singh is an Indian writer and novelist who has written several classic works in novels, dramas and short stories. Kashinath is also a scholar of the Hindi language. Kashinath was born on January 1, 1937, in the village of Jiyanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Singh obtained a BA (Bachelor of Arts), MA (Master of Arts), and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Hindi from Banaras Hindu University (also known as Kashi Hindu University). Kashinath then started his career in the same university as a lecturer in 1965. Kashinath retired from the university as a professor and head of the Hindi department . Kashinath is the younger brother of Namvar Singh, an Indian Literary Critic and an academician who also obtained his doctorate from the same university. Both brothers served as professors in the same university at some point.
Kashinath Singh has written many classic works; some of the popular ones include the likes of Kashi Ka Assi, Rehan Par Ragghu, Yaad Ho Ki Na Yaad Ho, Apna Morcha, Kahani Upkhan, etc. Kashinath also wrote dramas and memoirs such as Ghar Ka Jogi Jogda and Ghoas. He has also contributed his work in Hindi grammar in the form of his research work- Compound Verbs In Hindi. He also has many short story works, such as People On Beds, Morning Fear, The Biggest Man Of The Century, Admi Nama, etc. Apna Morcha’s Novel has been translated into Korean and Japanese languages as well. For his critically acclaimed novel, Rehan Par Ragghu, Kashinath Singh received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011. Kashinath Singh has won numerous accolades throughout the years, such as the Sahitya Akademi Award, Bharat Bharti Award, Sharad Joshi Samman Award, Katha Samman Award, Sahitya Bhushan Award, Kaifi Azmi Award, Rajbhasha Samman Award, Sammuchay Samman Award, and a lot more.
