Ritwik Bhattacharya is a squash player who was born on 14th October 1979 in Pathankot. He got his training in England under the coach Neil Harvey for five years. Ritwik Bhattacharya won his first international title in 2004 in New Zealand and it was the first time an Indian got the title. Ritwik Bhattacharya’s parents are Ranjan and Ranee, who are also sports enthusiasts. When he was a child, Ritwik was much interested in tennis and swimming. Football and Cricket were also his favorites. While studying at Rashtriya Indian Military College in 92-97, he developed his interest in squash. At the 9th World Junior Championships held in Cairo, he represented the nation. At that time, he was just 16. He had won 5 titles at the National level from 92-97. In 1998, he joined the PSA tour as a professional. In 1999, he won the Inter-University title.

Ritwik had taken part in 30 matches per year and had traveled to over 70 countries. For 11 years, he had been the number 1 squash player in India. Ritwik had won 9 titles on the PSA World Tour. He had played 86 tournaments on the PSA World Tour. He had been in the top 100 squash players for 9 years. Ritwik started a squash academy named Squash Temple and Real Training (START). The academy trains more than 150 children from economically backward, educationally weak and tribal groups around Mokashi in Mumbai.  

In 1996-1997, Ritwik received the Best All Round Sportsman Award from the President of India – Dr. Shankar Dhayal Sharma. In January 1997, he received an award from the Chief of Army Staffs Commendation for excellence in Squash. In the same year, he was awarded the Most Promising Sportsman of the Year by Delhi Sports Journalists Association. In February 1997, he won a Bronze Medal in Asian Juniors Squash Championships. In 2003-2004, he received Rajiv Gandhi State Sports Award for Best Sportsperson from the Delhi CM Mrs. Sheila Dixit. In 2004, he received an award from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport in the Special Award category to Medal Winners in International Sports Events. In March 2004, he won the Silver and Bronze Medals in the 9th SAF Games.
