Alok Kotian

Alok Kotian, from Mumbai, started his career in the early 2000s as an assistant sound designer for the movie Udaan under the production of Anurag Kashyap Films. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Film Making and Recording Arts in 2009, followed by his debut in Udaan. As a sound designer in the bustling Mumbai film industry, Alok Kotian has had many years of work experience, thus having developed a keen knowledge of the art of sound as a psychological medium. He is proficient in Pro Tools and Logic.

He has worked on projects varying from feature-length films to documentaries, short films, and theatre. Alok also has comprehensive knowledge on the implementation of audio in games, having done a course on the Wwise audio engine. Alok offers technical expertise in sound film and theatre from time to time. He specializes in production sound mixing and audio post-production. He works acoustically as well.

Alok says he has always been open to exploring all avenues of sound- whether academically or through the rigors of the working environment. He is a pet enthusiast who owns a dog named, Mooli and a cat named Wasabi. Alok is also known to be an avid reader. Alok has a special love for blogging on great food, watching/playing football, and listening to tunes spanning a plethora of musical genres.

Alok has worked on several projects over the years including, 'Little things' By 'Dice Media' as a sound design. His recent works in 2021 include 'The road to Kuthriyar'- A Tamil-English Film about Dhruv, a goodhearted but complacent wildlife researcher from the city of Tamil Nadu. He recruits a local tribesman' from the area - Dorai, to serve as his guide. When an accident takes him to Dorai's village, the wool of 'civilization' is lifted from Dhruv's eyes, and his attitudes towards the marginalized are transformed.

The movie was written and directed by Bharat Mirle. The accomplishments for projects he worked for include- Bunny, Recyclewala Films, Official Selection at Tiff 2015. Little Things, Dice Media, Best Web Series at Talent Track Awards 2017.  Udaan, Anurag Kashyap Films, Selected as part of the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes Film Festival Alok's principle, as he mentions, 'Every new day you learn some more.’
