For someone like AnahitaUberoi, acting is something that came very naturally even from a very small age. Being the progeny of thespians Vijayaand Farrokh Mehta, she started to work as an actress in her mother's own troupe at the age of 12. Completing her education from Mumbai she took her training in theatre from the Herbert Berghof Studio, and even acted on Broadway, before returning to India. Looking at the credentials of Anahita, it would be hard to put her in the same category as the normal Bollywood actress, although she did act in a couple of Bollywood movies too. On the silver screen, Anahita has appearedin “Everybody Says I’m Fine”, which was directed by , Let’s Talk, which had the direction of , and“White Noise”, with Vinita Nanda as the director. Of course the more well known ones in popular circles were “”, “” and “”, all directed by . She has also directed numerous productions herself, the latest ones being “Bombay Black” which was produced by and “Chiller Room”cast , and Anupam Kherwith street children. Her name and fame has spread far and wide, as far as the theatre world is concerned, with the personalities with whom she has worked sounding like almost a who’s who of the theatre world. Her roles have been mostly in English language plays, and she has very admirably fulfilled the roles of actor, director as well as producer. Although there have been countless plays with which she had been associated, the more remarkable ones have been in productions like“Chaos Theory”, “Class of ’84”, “The Glass Menagerie”, “Kabaret” and countless others.That Anahita is an out theatre personality, there is no doubt about it, but she is also totally dedicated to theatre, her motto being: "My aim is to bring money to Indian theatre so that acting becomes a profession rather than a hobby".
