Rahul Kanwal is an Indian TV Journalist, News Director at India Today. He was born in a small Hill station- Deolali, Maharashtra. He did his graduation in Journalism from Delhi University. He has also done a program in International Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University and is a Chevening Scholar. He has a special interest in space racquet sport and is devoted to fitness. He also likes white water kayaking, skiing, reading non-fiction books, and spending time with his family. He began his career as an anchor-cum-reporter with Zee News- Indian Hindi Language News Channel in 1999. After this, he became a part of Aaj Tak in 2002. He worked as the Editor-at-Large in Aaj Tak and India Today in TV Today Group. In India Today, he manages a team of 500+ reporters across India and in key global cities. His stories are featured across five television channels and twenty digital platforms, which reaches 489 million consumers. He even interviewed India’s union minister Piyush Goyal in 2019, where he asked him about the 2019 Balakot strikes. In his TV show, he received criticism for simulating a Skirmish between CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and Naxal insurgents. He also received many awards in his career. In 2013, The Indian Television Academy Awards awarded him as the best anchor. The Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation in 2016 honored him with the National annual award. In 2019, the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards awarded him in the Best Anchor category. He has won seven Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards, two Indian Television Academy Awards, and four News Television Awards. For a course in Hostile Environment Journalism, he won a Rory Peck Trust. His most up-to-date successes were during the Indian general elections that came to an end in May 2019. He believes seeing the story from both sides is always better than just pushing one side of the argument.
