Ashish Avikunthak was born on 11th February 1972 in the Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh in India. Ashish Avikunthak works as Writer, Director, Producer, Actor, and Editor in the Indian film industry. He is also an archaeologist. His perception of cinema is different than that of traditional or commercial filmmakers. His name is a popular one in cinema known as Parallel Cinema or Art house cinema as some people call it. Na Manush Premer Kothamala (2021), Dispassionate Love (2018), The Kali of Emergency (2016), Rati Chakravyuh (2013), Katho Upanishad (2011), and Shadow Formless (2007) are the feature films he has directed.
He has also made short films like Vakratundda Swaha (2010), Re: Frame – Scanning Time/ Documenting Change (2009), Endnote (2006), Rummaging for Pasts (2001), and Et Cetera (1997). He has also written, produced, edited, and acted in several films. His films have been a part of national and international film festivals. His films have been well accepted by the global critics and cinema lovers. Being an archaeologist, he has spent more than twenty years researching the state of Indian archaeology. His papers on archaeology have also been published in national and international universities. His work has been published in journals like Art India, Deep Focus, Journal of Social Archaeology, and so many more.
