Sanjivan Lal

Sanjivan Lal is a film director and a writer. He was born on 18th June, 1965 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Sanjivan completed his schooling at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and later from Sawan Public School, New Delhi. He completed his graduation from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. While pursuing his graduate degree, he took part in the dramatic society named The Players. After completing graduation, Sanjivan did Chartered Accountancy for 2 and a half years, but he left the last six months and joined the documentary workshop which was conducted by CENDIT in New Delhi and was sponsored by The Indo-German Social Service Society, 1989. After completing the workshop, he pursued the degree of film direction from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Sanjivan graduated in 1993 from FTII and went to Mumbai. Before making an actual film, he made several documentaries on topics for Government as well as the Corporate. Sanjivan also did several one day episodes on Zee TV and Star TV. Sanjivan Lal is one of the alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. Sanjivan Lal’s diploma film was shown at the International Film Festival of India in 1994 at Kolkata as a part of the Indian Panorama. Sanjivan then started his own production house named Lumiere Films. He has directed several one day programs and serials which aired on Star TV, Zee TV Rishtey, Sahara TV’s Raaz and Mujrim Kaun?, and Saturday Suspense. The thriller series titled Mujrim Kaun?, won the prestigious RAPA award for excellence in radio and television advertising for the episode named Khazana. Sanjivan has also done many non-fiction films. He has done films like Chau mask making for the Government of Jharkhand and Electronic Voting Machine for the Election Commission of India. He also did a film named “Is God Deaf”. The film is based on the noise pollution that is created by the people in the name of religion and rituals. This film got nominated as a part of the Indian Panorama for the International Festival of Documentary and Reality Films at New Delhi and the International Film Festival, 2004. Sanjivan’s first Hindi movie named Bubble Gum was released on 29th July, 2011. The movie is available on YouTube. This movie has been declared as one of the best movies of 2011 and was appreciated by the critics as well. Sanjivan opened his film company named Electric Films in June 2017. He was also honored to be a part of the list of best debut directors of Yahoo!, India.
