Vinod Kamble is a talented director and writer known for ‘Kastoori,’ an autobiographical work of self-realization. He was brought up in Solapur, Maharashtra. Vinod Kamble’s debut feature, Kastoori (The Musk), is meticulously directed in which the film’s protagonist, Gopi, portrays and addresses Kamble’s real-life problems. His life is entirely changed by the cinema. It had its world premiere at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2019. In Class 10, he was asked to quit his school to follow his father’s job, which he found very judgmental, so, he decided to carry on with his studies. After finishing school, Kamble went on to do engineering and, thus became the first in his family to pursue this which helped him to build his confidence.

Kamble’ was passionate about cinema since his childhood. He wanted to be a filmmaker so badly that he watched films continuously, sometimes even peeping into other people’s homes through the open window, and sometimes by selling the scrap to raise money to watch the movies at the theatre. Kamble spent his days as an engineering student watching films from all across the world. Among them, the most notable influences are Aadish Keluskar’s Kaul and Nagraj Manjule’s Fandry, a Marathi drama about caste-based discrimination.

It was in 2014 when he joined a theatre company, where he started working on plays and later assisting on films. He also did a month-long course in film appreciation from FTII and then Kamble honed his craft by making the short films Grahan and Post Mortem. The film won an award in 2016 and even screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017 and festivals in Poland and Mumbai, which gave him the validation and encouragement he was looking for. Anurag Kashyap’s films always talk about realism. Apart from that, Kamble was an avid reader of the novels written by Annabhau Sathe Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , as well as books and speeches by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar
