Anna Bhau Sathe was born on August 1, 1920, in Wategaon, Maharashtra. He was a renowned Marathi screenwriter and social reformer. His real name was Tukaram Bhanurao Sathe. Since childhood he was influenced by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and wrote a number of songs on him. He founded Dalit Literature and was pivotal in the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. He wrote 35 novels in Marathi, including “Fakira”, “Anna Bhau Sate Yanche Povade va Lavanya”, and “Jogin”. Some of his famous songs are, “Mumbai Chi Fakkad” and “Mumbai Cha Girni Kamgar”. He died on 18 July 1969 in Mumbai at the age of 48. The Government of Russia honoured him by making his bronze statue in Moscow.
