Shrabani Deodhar is one of the top female directors of India. She had won National Film Award with the very first movie Lapandav, which was released in 1993. She is not just a director but also a screenwriter by profession. Born on 12th June 1962 to her doctor parents, she never underwent any formal training in filming. Besides Marathi, she used to cane movies in Hindi and Bengali. Starting from Sutradhar in 1987, she worked as assistant director, director and screenwriter. Her husband Debu Deodhar, who was a cinematographer used to work with her and extended his help in every aspect. She has been credited as the writer for two movies – Pehchaan: The Face of Truth and Silsila Hai Pyar ka. Though her filmography includes only eight movies, she won about six awards both in the national and the state level. Though her movie Sarkarnama had not met the expectation, it was able to fetch her a Filmfare award, a Screen award and Maharashtra state Film award.
