Jaya Jose Raj

Jaya Jose Raj is a prominent director, screenplay writer, and producer in Indian Cinema. He has an outstanding career experience of more than 25 years, predominantly in the Malayalam industry. He learned screenplay writing from the Film and Television Institute of India(FTII), Pune. He was persistent in writing despite working in the government sector. In 1996, he released his first short film based on a city canal, Parvathy Puthanar. Then, he made an insightful documentary on pollution caused by plastic in 1999, for which he received a state-level award.

Jaya is a scriptwriter, director, and producer of Abode. Abode is a famous Malayalam movie. It was initially titled Idam. He is also the director of Vilpattu- The Bow Transcends the Music. Jaya is a thoughtful writer and has written epic stories and poems in the Vilpattu style. He worked as an assistant director in Notebook. He directed a film named Anandapuram Diaries in the year 2023. Jaya has also published a play called Middle Class. 

He has written and directed several award-winning documentaries. He has won several international, national, and state-level awards for scripts and directions. His play received a notable award at the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Awards in 2013. His documentary, Khalasis of Malabar- Man Who Have Mountains, received the Best Documentary award. He won the title of the Best Director. Some of his films have received entries at the International Film Festival.

In his career, prominent filmmakers like K.R. Mohanan, Adoor Gopalakrishnan Born into a family in Kerala, Adoor Gopalakrishnan >> Read More... , and Padmarajan have been the sources of inspiration. Nonetheless, he also works as a Special Tahsildar at the civil station in Kundappanakunnu. His wife, Reena Das, is a judicial first-class magistrate, and he is the father of two daughters. He is the epitome of art and talent.
