It took a very long time for Bela Segal to make her directional debut in the industry despite her brother Sanjay being one of the most successful directors of the Bollywood. She made her earliest contribution in the industry as an assistant editor in Parinda in 1989. Bela worked as an editor for the super hit movies of the Indian cinema like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas(2002) and Black(2005).

Currently, Bela is planning to direct a period drama. Despite her brother being the ace director of Bollywood, Bela doesn’t believe in copying the style of filmmaking of his brother Sanjay. Bela is very concerned about her brother Sanjay who is 50+ and wants him to get married soon. Bela also worked as editor of Ranbir Kapoor Debut film Saawariya. The film Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi failed to grab the attention of the audience, but Bela has won the appreciation of many people in the industry with her first movie as a director and inspired women to get into the field of direction. Currently, Bela is working on an untitled film which is almost ready to get down on the floors of Bollywood in the year 2016. However when asked about the movie Bela rules out the making of the sequel of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi.
