Asmit Pathare is an Indian actor, director, and screenwriter. Coming from a small town Miraj in Western Maharashtra, the engineer-turned- filmmaker entered the industry in 2012, when he won a moving-making contest organised by the Indie film channel, Humara Movie with his entry Jai Janardhan. in the 2017 film Aligarh. Asmit initially wanted to become an actor, but due to the lack of opportunities he turned to script writing instead. He wrote the scripts for children's short films. His second film, Bombay Joker, was screened at the MAMI Film Festival. Apart from that, Asmit wrote the script for the film The Owner (2012) and the short films The Last Act (2012) and Shankar Aur Bhagwan (2013).
He directed the film The Owner in 2012 and Annie Zaidi's Two Way Street. He also directed the short films The Doubty Dhoble: You Not Drink in 2012 and Shankar Aur Bhagwan in 2013. As for his role as an actor, Asmit began his journey by working in theatres. Even though Asmit's acting journey is limited, he has performed in several films. He appeared in the films- Afternoon (2013), Vees Mhanje Vees (2015), and Fairy Folk (2022). Asmit received the META Best Light Award for his work on Yuki Ellias' The Elephant in the Room in 2019. Over the years, Asmit's films have been screened at renowned film festivals like MAMI, IFFLA, IDSFFK, and SASFF. His short film Two Way Street, was the winner at the Best Of India Short Film Festival in 2023 and won the V Shantaram Golden Award for Direction at South Asian Short Film Festival. Due to its gripping theme, the film also qualified for the Academy Awards in 2024.
