Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was an Indian classical dancer. He was a guru and trained in Odissi dance. He was born on the 8th of January in 1926 Raghurajpur, Puri, Odisha, India. His spouse was Laxmipriya Mohapatra.
He popularized the classical dance form in the 20th century. Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was very innovative in his lifestyle and went very deep in learning.
In young age Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra performed for Jagannath in the dance form named Gotipua. By researching Gotipua and Mahari he made changes in Odissi dance and gave it a new form.
He played Mardala and Tabla (Percussion instruments), which reflects in his dance compositions. He was an Artist. He painted Patta Chitra painting.
Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was awarded a Doctorate by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal (1981).
He became the first to receive the Padma Vibhushan from Odisha. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1996).
