He was born in Changanassery, Kerala, India. He completed his Schooling from Sacred Heart English Medium School and did his Graduation in Chemistry from St. Berchman’s College, Changanassery.

In 1994, after completing his graduation, he went to the reputed Film and Television Institute of India(FTII), Pune for having a diploma in Cinematography. From FTII, he got selected to amount Asia in the second European Seminar for student directors of photography conducted in National Film School, Budapest, Hungary. The Seminar was conducted under the supervision of Oscar-winning Cinematographers Billy Williams and Dean Cundey. This was a great achievement of his life. After gaining popularity after this, he worked under many directors of photography, some of them were Govind Nihlani, Venu, and Binod Prandhan. And because of his quickly grasping power he got an opportunity to work as a Cinematographer of Prayanavarnangal which released in 1998 was a romantic Malayalam movie.

The film got a good response at the box office. He then worked in the Kuch Kuch Hota Hain which is one of the Best movies of Shah Rukh Khan. He then worked in Hello Brother in 1999 and Devadoothan in 2000. He worked in the movies Pinjar in 2003 and Rok Sako To Rok Lo in 2004 and then in 2005 he was working in the films like Waqt: A Race Against Time, Kaal. He knows five languages and have worked with the crew of 15 countries from around the world and featured 25 films, says his website. He is having an experience of 16 years in the academy and other than this he has been the Cinematographer for many documentaries and commercial ad films. He has worked with biggest of Bollywood stars to the Best of the Tollywood stars. He is a recipient of Mathrabhumi Amrita Award, Screen Award, nomination for Filmfare Award in 2012 for Rowdy Rathore and Asianet Film Awards, once in 2008 for Best Cinematographer Award and once in 2008 for Aakasha Gopuram and again in 2006 for Palunku movie.
