Nariman A Irani

Nariman A. Irani was a film producer and cinematographer in Bollywood. He is well recognised for his work as a cameraman on the film Chhailla Babu and for directing the movie Don (1978) under his production company, Nariman Films (1977). He is best known as a cinematographer for his work on Talash, Saraswatichandra, and Phool Aur Patthar, as well as Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and Chhailla Babu. Saraswatichandra (1968), he received the 16th National Film Award for Best Cinematography (B & W). In the same year, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer.

While working as a cinematographer on Chhailla Babu, Irani decided to borrow most of the plot of Chhailla Babu and share a modified story idea with Chandra Barot The Indian film director Chandra Barot is working >> Read More... , who made the new modified story as the film Don (1978). He died in an accident before Don was finished, but the film was a big hit and spawned the Don film franchise. When a wall fell on Don while he was preparing to take a shot for another film at Rajkamal Kalamandir studios in Bombay during the making of Manoj Kumar's Kranti during a sudden cloudburst in November 1977, he was badly hurt. A wall collapsed on him, injuring his hip bone. He was hospitalized, but he died a few days later.
