Known as the first child artist in the Indian film industry, Mandakini Phalke is the daughter of the late Dhundiraj Govind Phalke Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, screen name Dadasaheb Pha >> Read More... or as he is popularly known as, Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian Cinema. At the young age of seven, she starred in Dadasaheb Phalke’s silent film, Kaliya Mardan (1919) which was based on an incident of Lord Krishna’s life. Mandakini played the role of Krishna and captured the hearts of the audience with her charming stage presence. Her other cinematic works include, Shri Krishna Janama (1918) and Lanka Dahan (a retelling of Ramayana) (1917). Her acting career spanned 7 years. She got married at the age of 14 and her journey as an actor came to an eventual halt.
