Major General Ian Cardozo is a former Indian Army officer. He was the first war-disabled officer in the Indian Army to command a battalion and a brigade. Ian Cardozo was born in 1937 in Bombay (Presently Mumbai), India. He completed his primary education at St. Xavier's High School, Fort, and St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Ian Cardozo completed his graduation from the National Defence Academy. He went to the Indian Military Academy. Then Ian Cardozo joined the 5 Gorkha Rifles and became the commander of the 5th Regiment of Gorkha Rifles.
He has served the nation with 4/ 5 Gorkha Rifles and fought in 2 wars alongside the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and 1971. He became the first NDA cadet to be honored with both gold and silver medals. These medals are given to the one who performs well and is meritorious. He got promoted to the Brigadier rank on 1 March 1984. Cardozo is married to Priscilla. They had three sons. He also held the position of Chairman of the Rehabilitation Council of India.
