Shaibya Rakesh

An Art and production designer, Shaibya Rakesh is best known for her work in movies like English Vinglish Click to look into! >> Read More... and Mausam. A native of New Delhi, she did her schooling from Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in Subroto Park, after which got a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from International College for Girls in Jaipur which is under the Rajasthan University.

She was inclined towards cinema since her childhood days. She had a strong passion for photography. This made her go to Pune and join Film and Television Institute of India to pursue a master's degree in Art Direction and Production.

Having acquired sufficient formal education and training, she came to Mumbai and soon, through word of mouth and recommendations, landed up assisting Late Samir Chanda, a proficient Art and Production designer in Indian Cinema. Assisting, she believes helped her observe other individuals and their methods of approaching work.

In the process, she discovered her unique approach. She worked as an Assistant in Costume Design for Wisdom tree productions in 2009 for the television series, Upanishad Ganga ‘Upanishad Ganga’ was a 2012 television drama seri >> Read More... . As an Assistant Art Director, she worked for around two years in companies like Cinergy pictures and Eros International Media Pvt Ltd. for the movie Mausam during which she traveled to various locations like Mumbai, Scotland, Gwalior, and Punjab which helped her widen her perspective.

Shaibya was also the Assistant Art Director for Hope Productions for English Vinglish starring the late Sreedevi. Apart from cinematic work, photography, and painting are some of her hobbies. Through her journey, she also acquired a technical skill set in the fields of web designing, advertising, storyboarding, editing, oil painting, video editing and event planning.

She is a diligent worker and believes in getting her inspiration from observing her immediate surroundings, taking note of whatever amuses her and storing it in her mind for future reference.
