Uma Khosla was born on October 22, 1941, in Lahore, British India (now in Pakistan). Her father, Kailash Nath Khosla, was a businessman and her mother, Satya Devi, was a housewife. Uma was the middle child. She grew up with an older brother and a younger sister. Khosla received her primary education at a local school in Lahore and later earned her Bachelor of Arts program degree at Punjab University. Khosla developed an interest in acting during her childhood, which led her to begin her career as a stage actor in Lahore. She came to Mumbai to work in films.
